The Memorial by maggiemae

The Memorial

"From little towns in a far land we came
To save our honour and a world aflame
By little towns in a far land we sleep
and trust those things we won to you to keep" Rudyard Kipling.

This is the one of the War Memorials in Oamaru's main street. I don't know whether this soldier has come home or is going away.

Three good things:
1.Bought a complete party outfit for a function to be held in Sydney next week. We are guests of honour at the release of a new Indian motorbike. Help - high heeled shoes!
2. Our parsley has multiplied so much it is taking over a corner of the garden!
3. Lovely lemons to go with our homemade hoki and chips
What a lovely shot of the memorial. there have been far too many men in the world leaving their families because of war.

I think this war memorial is the nicest I have ever seen maggiemae...love the way he is looking down at his boy, I would think by the look he is off to war. We are so lucky our generation mostly has been war free in our part of the world...except for serving soldiers of course.
High heels, well there is a challenge!!

HIgh Heels? I haven't had on heels in years - just can't do it.

As Tony an Ann said, a moving and beautifully captured memorial.
Rampant parsley is supposed to bring great luck, so don't worry about those heels and have a fantastic time.

great choice of angle you took here, maggiemae. your shot showed enough for me to see the emotion in the soldier's face, even the body language of the boy. beautiful!

@onie_m Did he know about the "Spirit of Munro" named after Burt, John's father? Cost millions to make and is not for sale!

I had to come see your pic and hear your three things one more time before the break. Glad I did! Guests of honor! Wow! Very cool. Nice shot. Pull up Dancing With the Stars on youtube. After seeing what they do in high heels, walking should seem easier. :)

Maggiemae, thank you for your sweet comment on the video at the end of my Year 2 back in April. I've missed everyone and hope to be back soon. This certainly is a beautiful capture of this memorial. The Rudyard Kipling piece fits perfectly. Fav! PS How cool to have parsley in such abundance right in your own backyard!
