After a heavy duty round of sitting in one place for absolutely hours we finally arrived in Sydney! Inspected by a dog, a dozen or so officials, we managed to get out of customs unscathed! they are extremely vigilant with their screening! Fortunately we had a car waiting for us but it still took an hour to get to the hotel. This wonderful night view awaited us in our room! The Harbour Bridge is on the left and the Opera House on the right.
Three good things:
1. We were not on the Qantas flight that came in at the same time as us from Chile where there was an outbreak of vomiting and 20 people were carted away in ambulances!
2. There is a phone by the toilet - I expect its in case we fall in!
3. I can't believe this hotel! Everyone expects a tip! Not done in NZ! So far I have got away with it pretending to be the country hick!
Oh so funny I've got exactly the same shot Maggiemae, taken the 15 December, we were at the Quai West hotel, and the view was wonderful !
If you want to see mine ;) ....

Love your TGT maggiemae...just act ingnorant...I don't like the tipping idea , they should pay them enough to start with!!! Fabulous view...we have never been to Sydney but will stop over one day soo!
What a stunning view from your window!! I so want to visit - better start doing the Lottery!! Love your three things - made me laugh out loud!! Have a great time!! Can't wait to see your shots!!
Stunning view, Maggiemae! Corinne may not have seen your response because you didn't tag her. Are you staying at the same hotel she did? This is a gorgeous night time scene.
Great shot and really funny story. Sounds like travel has definite drawbacks, but now you can relax and enjoy, and don't you feel safer with that phone in the bathroom? HaHa.
wow that is TERRIBLE. i have never heard of such an outbreak. great one to add to your list of good things (TO AVOID)! oh my. great night shot too of a beautiful city!
Interesting about the tipping as I never tip and wouldn't dream of doing it in Sydney!! So glad you weren't on that Chile flight, how horrible!! and have a FAB time:)))) PS stay safe on the loo seat please.
@corymbia they don't actually ask, Amanda, just stand around smiling holding a flat bookish type thing that they open and shut! We are in the Shangrila which has a superb location but is more expensive than our usual budget hotel.
Oh yes we heard about that plane - what a nightmare (though Adam has just been serving a Chinese tour party and half of them have come down with vomiting - and Rachel punted them yesterday - so fingers crossed we don't encounter the same problem!) We have whole TV shows about Australian customs - if they tried that with UK Border control there would be a baggage hall and tumbleweed.... Have a fab time.

Wonderful shot. Traveling is awesome and tiresome all at the same time. Looking forward to you sharing Sydney.
So glad you weren't on that OTHER flight ; ) DON'T FALL IN!!!
Which hotel are you staying in? I keep thinking I want to take the kids on a holiday to Sydney and stay somewhere central.....
