Quiet harbour by maggiemae

Quiet harbour

Oamaru harbour on a Sunday morning. The sky was grey and the sea had that white look. The outgoing tide lapped at my toes while I took this picture.

Three good things:
1. Going through all my 365 friends, sad to see some favourite people have stopped posting but good to see so many continuing.
2. John cut the hedge and it looks beautifully level!
3. Bought two huge cheese scones at the Farmer's Market and are about to demolish them!
fav very beautiful scene

Really great shot viewed large. Then I could see the car tire "bumpers" on the sides of the harbor/dock area. Is the tide always this low? Or do those boats sit way up there at level with the top walk at times? And if there is no walkway, they just have to get in a tender of some sorts to come ashore? This is a fascinating view of a type of place I don't see a whole lot.

love this effect maggiemae :)

@espyetta I just noticed how low the tide was after your comment, Marybeth! It does come up about another 3 metres!

Lovely shot Maggie and wonderful coloured boats.

Wonderful use of negative space. And the image played tricks given my own POV -- figured it was snow at first, and wondered why the boats were there!

Lovely shot!
December 15th, 2013
love the over exposure and the vivid colors of the boats...very nice !

Wonderful comp. Love the white water!
December 15th, 2013
Beautiful scene and pops of color, but the water doesn't look like water. Has a bit of a surreal feel to it.
December 15th, 2013
@skstein Yes, it does, Sandy - I think I overexposed it too much - over enthusiasm!

this looks cold and bleak somehow... like something i'd see here in winter... hope it's warmer than this picture makes it feel! i do like it tho - the colours on the boats against the blown out water really make this image pop!

@northy and i both living in toronto and the city still experiencing a fierce pre-winter cold, this photo does look rather chilly, and the water looks like snow!

A fav for sure - gorgeous shot.

bleak but yet such a beautiful scene .... like how those colors add to the the image!!
December 18th, 2013
Nice capture- the tide is definitely out though. The boats look rather low in the water compared to the boardwalk!
