Blank eyes

....to the sky! This wonderful old classic building did not pass the new earthquake regulations. In order to preserve the facade, they have demolished the building, leaving this. It is going to be the home of BNZ - Bank of New Zealand! Where did they get the money - from us, the people who put their savings into it?

In standing in the parking lot in the centre of the street here, I just about got run over by a little old lady with white hair. Her car went right into my leg! She didn't seem worried!

Three good things:
1. I'm the only one with money in it but maybe it will do well in this new building. Its going to be very modern inside.
2. It has provided good work for the people who need the work.
3. Its next to "Fat Sallys" charming restaurant on the right.
Your title is perfect for the image. It is a beautiful old building so in that sense, good to know they are remodeling/rebuilding but keeping the facade.

I can't wait to see it when they complete the renovations. I love that it "provided work for people who need the work"--that is GREAT!

Great pov and processing. I'm glad that at least the facade is preserved.

if it was a u.s. bank they would just get the government to give them the money.

A fantastic shot!

Oh no, what a shame.

Yes, we come through all the time don't we?

Nice shot, sad though.. but good that it will get a new lease on life... :)

It's a beautiful old façade with so much character. I love that the bank has decided to save it in doing the renovation. You did a wonderful job with the processing of this marvelous shot. And I'm so glad that you weren't knocked over by the driver in the parking lot, Maggie!

Such a shame it had to be demolished! Pretty building.

@peggysirk. Hell, if I was knocked over,Peggy, I would have gone round to her car window and asked if she was responsible!

I always love your titles & words Maggie, but will be keeping a wide berth from any white haired ladies...That's just terrible, I hope you are ok! 😦

A lovely old building Maggie and will be used again.

Great choice of title. The idea of preserving the facade while making alterations to provide a safer building sounds like a good compromise for the preservation of a fine example of some classic architecture.

good that they preserved this beautiful facade. Nice shot.

Lovely old classic building and happy they were at least able to preserve the facade. Whew, that was a close call.....same thing happened to me about a year ago. Be careful.

Deb
I like your processing here! BTW, I wouldn't eat at a place called Fat Sally's . . . Just saying :D

Well I am glad your money won't be buried within these walls Maggiemae!! I think I might have a bit of money go through that bank too!!

Definitely worth saving, beautiful building
January 16th, 2014
Fantastic shot. It's nice they are preserving the facade.
January 16th, 2014
Oh....glad you are okay! Great shot. At least they did save the facade.
January 16th, 2014
Wow- I haven't been hit by a car in order to get a shot! Did she realize she hit you? That's pretty cool how they could demolish the one building while the restaurant stayed in tact!

Beautiful facade for a bank. It looks as if it used to be a newspaper building.

That lady is very lucky she didn't hit you harder. I am sure it would have damaged her car. Glad you areOK.

Great capture and commentary.

Beautiful treatment of this photograph and so good that the facade is being preserved. We were in Christchurch a couple of years ago on the day that the cathedral started to be demolished… it was awful to see people in tears watching.
