The Giant Lily by maggiemae

The Giant Lily

Cabbage trees (Cordyline australis) are giant tree lilies belonging to the plant family Laxmanniaceae. They are one of the most widely cultivated New Zealand natives and are very popular in Europe, Britain and the U.S. In the U.K. they are known as Torquay palm.
This one is in our neighbour's place and but we have had some grow in ours from seeds, I suppose. I treasure them but John doesn't like the strappy leaves that fall off and get tangled round the motor mower's blades.

Three Good Things:
1. No inspiration today - drizzly and not warm but finished my book.
2. Planted some more radish seeds - they have been so tender and juicy and I love them in a sandwich.
3. Enjoyed watching the Golden Globes - glad I"m not a film star!
Nice cartoon like processing

This is a great multi headed specimen ... not too many bite holes.. Often see them on UK tv programs and wonder if they are known as NZ Cabbage tree...

Have seen these here but didn't realise where they came from. Nice angle of them and interesting processing.

Yes, I've seen these in Torquay! Good close shot. Presumably you've finished reading your book, not writing it?!

they look like a palm tree! Beautiful especially with this edit!

Excellent processing, Marg. which shows these iconic trees in a new light. Love your interesting notes too.

@dolphin Yes, just reading, Molly! Although I do have a book to finish writing on the computer and am being reluctant to get on with it!

I love the lines of this plant, Maggie.

Amazing picture. Love nr 3 of your three good things. And btw I don't like George Clooney!

@gijsje He's handsome enough but the guy himself has nothing to be overcome with. Good actor, though!

Impressive capture and very interesting plant

These are lovely trees....we have something like them in the south of the UK more than in the north....perhas a bit cold up here! Don't know what they call them over here. Fabulous looking & would enhance any garden although sounds like Harry wouldn't like them for the same reason as John!

Interesting processing

Great shot, we have several of these in our garden and I've always liked them

These always remind me of Dr. Seuss pictures- crazy hair. I like how you've processed this one- part posterize and part natural.

Really nice processing, Maggiemae. Love the lighting too. I would not want this type of leaf in my yard either. Sounds like a good day and a nice garden. Homegrown is the best. Wish I had a garden too. I agree watching the Golden Globes is better than being a star though the pay would be nice.

Very cool processing. I like the effect a lot.

Very nice. Love the processing.

Ha, like @olivetreeann they always remind me of Dr Seuss series I read the kids. Nice specimen too.

How very unusual. Lovely capture. I feel sure I have seen those here in South Carolina but not sure.

Lovely capture, like the processing on this image.
Saw the George Clooney part here and must say it was cringeworthy.... nice sentiment but I think said to the wrong audience, much better kept for his wedding speech.

They are shaggy-looking things. I like your comp and processing.

Interesting looking trees. Had I not read your comment though, I would never have associated them with lilies or cabbages.

Nice shot, Maggie. Did you watch Micheal Keaton's speech? I didn't watch the Golden Globes, but I did see a video of his speech. Very heartwarming.

Love this photo of the Lilies. Very pretty.

Love these.....I think we have some of them down at the beach in front of the hotel.....I will have to take some shots and post them to confirm! Really like your processing of them. Yes, being a movie star seems like a lot of work, and feels like living in a fish bowl!
