Fleur's Place

Believe it or not, this building is a famous, world wide known, restaurant. It is ‘Fleurs” on the Otago East coast not far from us. She fought various beaucratic challenges and established her restaurant as a one-off seafood restaurant. People come from all over the world to dine here! She has her own Fish License and fish is loaded off this little jetty fresh and its straight on to the plate! As you can see its not big and looks like a shed! Recycled windows, doors, building materials, artwork. Fleur is an inspiration as she’s had a really tough history!

Three good things:
1. I got this photo from the local pub where the Lion’s were running raffles that we helped with.
2. Fleur suffered with abuse in her only marriage and then breast cancer and came out the right side to be extremely successful.
3. We raised $3000 for our Lion’s charity whatever it may be!

What a great story! So pleased she triumphed in the end! Wonderful fund raising effort!

Cool story! The shape of her restaurant reminds me of a place we went to in NYC's China Town- Nahm Wah's Tea Parlor. It was technically a "hole in the wall" as far as décor went, but the food was out of this world. Everything cooked fresh, brought around on trays which you could pick and choose from. At the end of your meal, they stacked up the dishes according to size and tallied up your bill that way! Nice shot and congrats on the successful fund raising!

Fantastic!

@olivetreeann In this restaurant if you book a table (which you have to as its so popular) they put your name in chalk on the table!

What an awesome location for a restaurant

@rach_who It is, Rach! You look out the windows on the stray seal, the fishing boats coming in and across the bay, mountains which in winter have snow on the tops!

Lovely image - soft pastel feel here..
March 27th, 2016
Her food must be delicious. Do you have to take a boat to access the restaurant?
March 27th, 2016
@skstein No Sandy - there is a road that connects with her area right off to the right hands side! Its one way and you go back via another one way road!

March 27th, 2016
well how cool is that, and this photo is so timeless... really nice.
March 27th, 2016
I heard about it but I have not yet had a chance to visit, I heard she was sick and I hope that is the history so I still have a chance.

@yaorenliu
Fleur is generally always down at the restaurant meeting new people and although she looks like the wreck of the Hesperus, she is most welcoming!
March 27th, 2016
Looks like a great, quite quirky place for a meal.
March 27th, 2016
@nickspicsnz Quirky is a perfect word for the building and the lady but the cuisine is high class and can be expensive. But you might choose something you have never had before - mutton birds for instance or eel!
March 27th, 2016
Love the tones in this photo - a slight colour-shift to green, creating a calm and restful feeling, and interesting info too!

Lee
It looks like it's vulnerable to the elements and could get blown away some windy day.
March 28th, 2016
@gamelee No, its quite sheltered in this bay, Lee. And we don't get many storms or high winds in this area!
