This tree seemingly growing out of the lake has been in many famous photos for Wanaka! I had to join the tripods out there to get my particular photo. Most of them were younger than me and didn’t have to work out how to get to standing from sitting on the shingle!
Three good things;
1. Wanaka put its dreamlike quality back into my mind - lived here in the 50’s and 60’s, climbed the mountains on my own… my sisters didn’t want to accompany me.
2. Got internet but have to be careful - might run out.
3. While bbqing in the public zone I listened to Italian, French and German! The Germans seemed to have the best English.
You are very kind to comment such, Jane! It would have been nicer if the water was completely still - more reflections but can't organise the weather to suit me! @janemartin
What a beautiful photo, Maggiemae. I love the colors too. Such a beautiful place to grow up and climb the mountains. Sounds like fun to be around people from all over the world. FAV
Great capture of our famous tree.. The day @dide and I were there we witnessed a young photographer drop her lens into the lake ... he father did not look happy ... here is my version on a very chilly July morning http://365project.org/julzmaioro/365/2015-07-08
This is gorgeous -- so well processed, but I also love the composition with the hint of reflection, the birds under the tree and the magical look overall.
@stray_shooter Believe it or not, Ron - this is the first time I have been to this area to look at this tree! Lived here for several years in the '60s and visited so many times since!
I've seen photos of this famous tree before of course... but never as nice as this... you've brought something of yourself to this image which makes it much more than just another snap.
Very pretty! There are some reservoirs in New Jersey where we used to live that have trees like this too. It's because before there was a reservoir it was "regular" land. Those that determined more water was needed built a dam and flooded the area. Some of the trees were too tall to become submerged. In one area they flooded a whole village (not with the people though!). I'm told you can scuba dive in there and still see the houses. Good shot!
I've never seen a photo of this tree before now, but apparently many have lol. This is a stunning shot. I know where there is lots of wildlife sometimes you have to fight for a good spot .. never would have thought for a tree! Outstanding. Well done and it's looks fabulous on black.
Btw I can relate to getting up from a sitting position on flat shingle/beaches! I have done rather a lot of that lately & my word you have to roll over onto hands & knees! Never thought it would come to that!!
@happypat Exactly - and that is what I did - roll over, hands and knees then one foot at time! But.... nobody realises how hard it is - unless you fall over! I haven't yet!
