The Big Dam by maggiemae

The Big Dam

Hoover Dam has a fascinating history and its well displayed for all visitors to see. This is John standing overlooking the dam but looking at this enormous bridge that goes over it!

Three Good Things:
1 Confiscated one iPad, 1 games console, 2 remotes and hid them. Evening turned out well with the whole family participating.
2. Places to sit while trekking around this huge edifice.
3. The sausages here are so nice!
I've been there. Did you do the tour?? We went right inside the thing! When we were there years ago they were building that bridge from the outside inside. It was quite the sight!

@kwind Yes we did the basic tour - right into the bowels of the dam! Amazing build!

We visited there a few years ago when visiting the US. We did the tour as well. Found it quite interesting.

i recognized mr. cool's stance immediately. your family confiscated your gadgets? :-D
August 6th, 2017
Oh nice processing!
August 6th, 2017
A superb shot with Mr M surveying the magnificent surrounds . !! I admire your braveness in confiscating all those gadgets and had a little chuckle to myself !! -- but it did seem to have worked at least over your evening mealtime !

Almost a space age scene, John could be standing in his very own space invader ship overlooking Mars.
Well done re gadgets, I expect all really enjoyed your family evening. It's like playing family games you don't know what fun it is until you try!
August 6th, 2017
@summerfield Nope, Vikki -it was me who took all their gadgets!. They just went to the bedrooms and played for hours and hours! So I made it a bit more difficult!

A fantastic picture of the dam and the new bridge and John too of course. We found it exciting to be able to walk from one state to another across the top of this.
applauding your #1!

@grammyn We forgot to mention this, Katy! Thanks for the No 1 appreciation!
August 6th, 2017
@s4sayer I am too, Margo - go all weird and uncomfortable!
August 6th, 2017
Fantastic view and I like that he lends perspective. The compression makes it appear almost like a beautiful back-drop on a set. Wonderful and I'm glad to see you're able to get out a bit (heat hopefully backing off a bit).
August 6th, 2017
Wow - that certainly is some structure ... lovely processing too
August 6th, 2017
@elatedpixie Yes, I like to include a person in a shot for that reason, Phylm! The background is like - on the moon!
August 6th, 2017
@happypat The concrete structures are amazing with the curves everywhere. Even if all watching a movie, it is better than individual separations!
August 6th, 2017
Great shot

Magnificent to be there for sure....Love this shot.....

Wow! I don't remember this shield enclosure. They must have added it after our last visit several years ago. Fav.

fabulous :) all i need say
August 6th, 2017
@snaphappi Thanks Maggie- I think HD brings out the depth in a photo!
August 6th, 2017
@maggiemae LOL, Maggie! I looked at the photo on my iPhone and I thought there was an angled shield attached to the terrace with the lines and cables I saw. Thought it might be added so upset grandparents didn't jump over the edge! :) :) :)
August 6th, 2017
@gardenfolk ha ha, CC! I'm a bit nervous about heights so didn't go near the edge!
August 6th, 2017
Fabulous capture.

Don't think we got out ... or even if this was available when my family went through here 45 years ago! Nice shot!
August 7th, 2017
Wow! We've been here so many times, but not since this new bridge was constructed. Looks like it has really changed the landscape. Great shot. I like tat you got John in it. Gives it a feeling of its size..
August 7th, 2017
@rhoing Does this mean, Thom that you are still in here - never got out?
August 7th, 2017
@aglennc It is so high that we couldn't see if there were any cars on it but we did see tiny pin pricks of a few people walking it!
August 7th, 2017
@maggiemae Ha ha, good one! I don't think we got out of the car when we drove by it/over it!
August 7th, 2017
Brilliant outlook, wonderful capture...Fav
August 7th, 2017
