This really is a plant! by maggiemae

This really is a plant!

Coffee at this popular plant shop - china pigs abound, blossoms trees wave their arms in front of you; I bought two japanese anemones but while sipping my fragrant coffee, I noticed this hanging pot plant behind John’s back!
Just amazing - its called a “Hanging Pitcher plant’. I learnt that it is carnivorous plant with great abilities to entice insects to land on the slippery sides They then fall into this funnel and get digested at the bottom as they are unable to climb out due to hairs all pointing downwards!

Three Good Things;
1. I like honey but I am a big big to fall down one of these contraptions!
2. Our Whisky launch was held at the prestigious Dunedin Club and our table neighbours were judges and political guys and even a Brigadier’
3. Not only that, we were able to stay the night there! A photo to come.
These are amazing - have only ever seen pictures of them

Amazing detail on this remarkable plant. I guess there's something to be said for being too big to fall into it!!

@grammyn I think some potter could make something like this and we could put tea lights in it?

An incredibly unusual plant, a bit on the lines of the fly catcher plant but much bigger & more deadly! Thank goodness you won't fall down into that long funnel that's all I can say! If you had had too much whisky it might be a different story!

@happypat Or ....if I was turned into a tiny little person - I could do that through photography. Might compose one of me trying to scrabble out of that horn like flower!
