That flat ridge there is the mighty Benmore Dam and late in the evening, the powerlines were highlighted with the setting sun.
At the time of construction,(started1958) the dam was the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and the project was the biggest of its kind in New Zealand.
It generates enough electricity each year for about 298,000 average New Zealand homes.
Three Good Things:
1 Managed to put in some power to the computer but it uses so much within a little time so I had to shut it down.
2. Lunch beside a big river and watched a man fillet the fish he had caught.
3. All by ourselves in the evening beside the Lake.
I like the lights highlighting the dam. Is it in earthen dam? I grew up near Grand Coulee dam which at one time was the largest concrete structure the world.
@grammyn Yes it is an earth dam - 28 million tons of earth! All of our other dams are concrete! I haven't heard of the Grand Coulee but went to Boulder Dam recently!
