Cold and lonely... by maggiemae

Cold and lonely...

I’m swept away by the many 365’ers still taking the trouble to post their best photos at this busy time!

This is kind of sad - at 8.40pm this man walks slowly past on the wet and empty road, limping, head down , with a meagre knapsack on his back. He’s hardly likely to start singing , Val - der-ee!
1. I did have the thought of inviting him in but wondered where it would end!
2. The “Grinch’ of Christmas came to mind!
3. There is absolutely nowhere he could be going on this road… now I shall think about him all night!
Hmmm it's not easy to come to terms with the situations we sometimes come across.
Hopefully things will improve. And don't worry about it as long as you are doing what you can where you are.....that's my thinking anyway.

@sarah19 Thanks Sarah - those are encouraging words!

Oh dear poor man, I would feel guilty too but at least it’s not cold! The homeless problem is a massive over here! I think you’re right about everyone busy but we do our best! You have a kind heart Maggie!

@happypat I don't think I've ever seen a beggar in Oamaru or known of homeless people but I expect there are some!

So shall I. We have a large transient population here (Central Coast of California) with the almost always temperate weather and it often breaks my heart. Some choose the lifestyle here... college beach town, some are violent and unstable (being bused here from other cities, sadly) but for the most part, it’s folks down on their luck. I know I too would hesitate to bring him home but I would prepare him some food and find him some warm socks and bring it to him. I hope, thanks to your wonderful shot here, that he receives all the kind, good juju we are sending. 💕

@elatedpixie That is a nice thought - but he was gone before I could have done anything. I wasn't going to run after him in the car as sometimes you just can't trust people!

This is such a poignant shot and story. I think I heard the average age of a rough sleeper in the UK (man) was 44 and even lower for women. My mum's expression "there but for the grace of God" comes to mind.

A powerful image!

Well it’s an amazing image. Perhaps, just perhaps his doctor told him he needs to walk more. And maybe he has some water in the backpack. 😊

well spotted maggie

Great candid...#1I'm glad you listened to your common sense. I hope he had some kind of destination in mind.

A very touching photo. I often struggle with your same dilemma, wanting to help but unsure of the wisdom of it

@maggiemae you’re right. It’s unfortunate but, you’re right, it would be unsafe.

@grammyn We all remember the story of the Good Samaritan but nowadays its not the safest thing to do.

Such sad times for so many these days.

It looks rather sad but maybe he is going to visit someone further down the street.

@onewing this sort of person is hardly likely to have a mobile phone. But that's a comforting thought!

This situation has become more apparent...everywhere. Changes in working practices...particulary our dependence on hard and software...have resulted in fewer employees, more small organisations for which the cost of salaries and obligatory benefits are disproportionately costly...etc.

@s4sayer Isn't he wonderful! Love his words and the music! Peaceful and calming in this day and age!

Hmmm..does make one wonder.

Sad capture, but a good documentary shot. We have many homeless people in my city. We struggle to know what to do to help their situations.

Great candid shot

It is a kind of sad photo but also a sign of the times now. You are better to be safe and not invite people in.
Hope you have lovely Christmas :)

A candid image that speaks volumes.

The world has gone crazy! The stranger became an enemy. We are afraid of him. You have done the right thing. We help each other but we require an explanation of the situation.

A cool candid
