The Kaikoura Earthquakes had ruined both our next campsites - the base now for improving access along this seaside route!
We travelled 6km up a valley on bone shaking gravel roads not knowing what we would come to:
Three Good Things:
1. A nice DOC small site with long drop toilet and access to a stream to wash your hands.
2. Because it was isolated, we thought it was our own…. not so - 6 vehicles came in here and set up around us. The new ‘non camper vans’ which just looked like station wagons but they have all the equipment for a night’s stay.
3. The mountains of the Seaward Kaikouras towered over us. Mt Manakau topped 2609 metres!
You are supposed to “commune with nature” when you camp, and not worry about WiFi. I’m being sarcastic, Maggie, I know a little communing goes a long way! This is s great photo of your neighbors.
that is why i wouldn't want to be a hermit unless i can be guaranteed a good connection to the internet. but then again i would need electricity for that. oh, heck, city life it is then. :-D
