Just up the road, a farm has been subdivided and many new houses have been built and sold. I was interested to see the sections come right up to this old barn.
Three Good Things:
1. Visited a show home here and was envious of all the space and comfort!
2. A whisky tasting down in the old part of town - 4 whiskies to try - 3 single malt whiskies and 1 good blended. Just 15mls each. Whoops - just found some of these were blended malts!
3. Cold nights, warm beds.
It is happening here. When I bought my house in 1991, it was mostly ranches, pastures, hills and prairies around, except for this little community. Now some of the ranchers have sold land to developers and the subdivisions are creeping up all around The hills have been bulldozed of grass and trees, getting ready to pour slabs for houses. Of course, these country roads are still the same as back in 1991 and no where near prepared for all the extra traffic.
Subdividing wasn't allowed on our blocks of land when we first moved here 22 years ago, but these days it seems to be allowed and some blocks have now got houses crammed on them.
Happening here too! The farm land on edge of our estate has been sold and is now being built on which means the edge of our town will eventually join up with the next village. So sad to see the countryside disappearing!
It’s very sad to see & happening all over the place here. They keep saying we need more houses but only building more expensive ones, why don’t they use brown field sites more
& smaller affordable houses so people cam move up the ladder slowly! I’m sorry to say big building firms are buying land off farms, the smaller family farms are struggling to make money & of course jump at the chance to sell a bit for large amounts, it’s too tempting! If farmers are doing well & love their job they wouldn’t be selling land. They don’t make land anymore & once gone it’s too late. Have there been no plans to develop the barn too?
From what comments I read, it seams to go on everywhere. more and more farmland is getting lost. farmers making a huge profit when selling their property. what gets me the most is that all the large trees disappear and that the houses are being so cramped together.
So what do you suppose will happen with the barn. I guess make room for another building or a row of.
