Melponene and Yolanda by maggiemae

Melponene and Yolanda

* Melpomene is the protector of the tragedies. She created rhetoric speech and the melodies of tragedy. She is typically depicted holding a tragic theatrical mask.
“It may be misery not to sing at all,
And to go silent through the brimming day;
It may be misery never to be loved,
But deeper griefs than these beset the way.
To sing the perfect song,
And by a half-tone lost the key,
There the potent sorrow, there the grief,
The pale, sad staring of Life's Tragedy.”
Paul Laurence Dunbar

This portrayal of Melpomene looks Egyptian. - Yolanda interjected, I can do that too - turn my head sideways! She also has the mask and the dagger but is looking for approval from Melpomene!
Three Good Things;
1. Yolanda found this serious prose a bit depressing and regaled Melpomene with this “There was a young woman named Bright,
Whose speed was much faster than light.
She set out one day,
In a relative way,
And returned on the previous night

2. A phone call from stepdaughter worried that the people who had been confronted by armed and masked men in the early morning dark might be us - it was in the same suburb as we live in! Needless to say, It wasn’t us - anyway I would have taken a photo of them with a flash, blinded them and so we would then overpower them - cripples as we are!
3. Toothpicks…

Another creative image.
Love Yolanda's limerick

@gijsje They were after drugs so the victims must have been dealing in drugs! The only drugs we have are prescribed ones and no fun!

@maggiemae
Of course this is a very serious incident; it was your reaction (taking a photo...) that made me smile.

Still laughing reading about the house robbery.....I know those robbers know better than to dare confront you two!
I think Yolanda needs to steer clear of Melpomene she sounds a depressive sort! Yolanda gave a much better rendition of a proper poem....the other one is a dirge!
July 22nd, 2019
@happypat A dirge is the right word, Pat! The place of the robbery I have just found is just round the corner from us! But no way could anyone break into our house! Our three outside doors have a built in lock in 6 different places!

Live your description of how you would overpower the armed and masked intruders! Picture is pretty good too. Quite striking.

@busylady Except for the fact I don't sleep with my camera beside the bed, Judith!

Yolanda's ditty was much more amusing. Besides which many of us do sing off key however there is still joy in singing.I'm loving your stories of the Muses

a cool series

I’m with Yolanda! We all need to look on the bright side. Well I hope the robber culprits are found soon, I know it’s very worrisome for you because they were so close.

Love you story and your defense plan.
July 23rd, 2019
Very happy that it wasn't your house that was robbed!
July 23rd, 2019
Yolanda is certainly getting around...#2 Yikes...Stay safe.
July 23rd, 2019
Yolanda is very adaptable & I like her little limerick.....So pleased it wasn't your house robbed,

Yolanda is getting quite a classical education isn't she. Quite the little scholar. Love the limerick. Scary to hear about the robbery nearby but you're probably right re targeted for drugs. Our outside doors are well secured too, and the four-legged burglar alarm would be in full voice, ie deafening.
July 23rd, 2019
@golftragic You have a real 4 legged burglar alarm? We had thought of putting a speaker outside and playing a recording of a large dog!

Your nr. 2 sounds like a daily incident in SA. Love your little Yolanda and her adventures.

@ludwigsdiana I expect its just as bad in America too! But not in li'll old Oamaru - 13000 population!
July 23rd, 2019
Definitely looks Egyptian!
July 23rd, 2019
@congaree Interesting, John! How close were Greece and Egypt in those days!
July 23rd, 2019
@maggiemae Sounds very sensible....you need to lock yourself in securely these days...same here!
July 23rd, 2019
@maggiemae Oh yes, we sure do. Our Maggie is a rescue dog, a 24 Kgkelpie/cattle dog cross and very, very smart. She's a fantastic watch-dog with a big voice, serious growl and large teeth. The Indian blokes who do most of our parcel deliveries are terrified of her and won't let me open the security door. Being a rescue dog she's very zealous about guarding her now very comfortable patch.

I am enjoying the Yolanda series very much. Love her limerick.
