A bin full of lettuce.. by maggiemae

A bin full of lettuce..

...makes the medicine go down...! No I won't go into that but do find it difficult to eat lettuce 3 times a day! It is what happens when you plant. All matures at the same time. I did find a recipe for lettuce soup but it didn't appeal to me!
Thankful for:
Changed our goosedown duvet which is just heavenly in winter, for a much lighter one.
Yes it has happened here too - luckily we have hens who enjoy their greens and are happy to help out with excess.

Such a lovely selection you have. Have you ever tried chopped lettuce fried with onion and fresh grees peas? A French speciality 😋

I will share an old Pa Dutch recipe to change up the lettuce a bit. If you like bacon, this may be a delightful change to your lettuce eating.

PA Dutch Hot Bacon Dressing
Ingredients
4 servings
1. 1/3 cup Sugar
2. 1 large Egg
3. 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
4. 3/4 cup Water
5. 8 slice Bacon
6. 1 tbsp All Purpose Flour
7. 1 head Iceberg Lettuce or your preference
8. 1 Salt to taste (Depending on the bacon used, may not need salt)
Steps
1. In a bowl, beat sugar into the egg.
2. Add vinegar and water; beat well and set aside.
3. Meanwhile, chop bacon and brown it in a small saucepan.
4. Stir flour into bacon, grease and all. Your using the fat from the bacon to make a roux. Cook the flour for 2-3 minutes.
5. Carefully add the liquids that were set aside. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Add salt to taste. It can even be omitted depending on the salt content of the bacon you're using.
6. Prepare a head of Iceberg Lettuce. You can quarter it and serve in wedges, slice it, however you'd like it. Pour Hot Dressing over lettuce.
A PA Dutch delight, a sweet sour addition to your meal

A lovely variety!

I suppose the trick would be to plant in stages rather than all at the same time. That way they wouldn’t all ripen at the same time. Beautiful bin full of greens though and lovely textures
