A dangerous river by maggiemae

A dangerous river

This is my safe picture from the side of this Clutha River in NZ. Deep and swift flowing! A young 17 year old was "knee boarding' on this river being pulled by a few of his friends on a boat, and he fell off! His body was retrieved 6 days later, 14k down from where he went in!

However if you respect the power of water, it is lovely to capture the colour and swift power of this water - from the side!
Beautiful picture Maggie. Yes, it is a sad story but these things will always happen in life unfortunately.

Oh such a sad story!!!! Beautiful capture and the power of water is something I have great respect for and quite a lot of fear!

@ruthmouch The smooth look on the top of this fast flowing water gives the indication of the huge speed of it, Ruth!

i was young and an experienced ocean swimmer the first time i swam in a river....not to be fooled with.

Lovely river view. In this area we have a similar problem with Great Falls, a scenic are where the Potomac River tempts people to swim and then sweeps them away with strong underwater currents. I once saw a body being retrieved but did not linger to get a close look. Of course, if I'd been a 365-er then. . . .

The color of the water is so interesting. Beautiful view- and a wise place to photograph the flowing water.

Wow ... what a beautiful pov and such a sad story! Rivers do run swift .. I see it all the time when I take photos of the icy chunks that are swept along the water in the Winter.

As usual I am always amazed at the colour of your rivers & lakes maggiemae. Such a pretty river framed by the soft branches.

Wow that is crazy! You always have to be careful when swimming around currents, etc. That is sad :( A gorgeous looking spot here though!

Lovely shot, Maggiemae. So sorry to hear about that young man. I have great respect for the power of water.

What a sad story! And so young! Water has to be respected in all forms - be it the ocean, a river, even a swimming pool or puddle ... Nice composition, Maggie. Love the branches hanging into and over the river.

Gorgeous shot. A tragic story. I grew up near a river and I well know how treacherous rivers can be.

What a beautiful color to the water. . .it is so sad when young ones suffer the results of their inexperience and lack of maturity in times like this.
