This is actually outside Fleur's restaurant in Moeraki, Otago, NZ. She has world wide recognition with the British Rick Stein of international culinary reputation, visiting her for a meal. There are many others who fly in just to eat at her fresh fish restaurant.
The guy in the little boat is being dragged up the slipway to her restaurant kitchen door with a load of fish. She has her own license and that enables her to use the fish caught that day on her menu.
In the background the flotilla of little fishing boats were here for the annual Lion's Fishing Contest. The Lions arrive at 5am and launch their boats with tractors and are there around 1.30pm to drag them out again. There are prizes for the biggest fish of the type, auctions of fresh fish afterwards and in the local tavern, raffles of trays of meat, bacon and eggs which I help with - not the eating part but the recording of the winners.
Aaw , I shouldn't have read your prose -- how I would like some really fresh from the sea fish !! Lovely view , what a glorious place to have have a fresh fish restaurant !!
First what a fantastic place to sit in the sun & watch the activities on the water. Fascinating sight of that boat going up the slip path to the restaurant, that is what you would call very fresh fish ...out of the water into the pan!!
