Taken in a group about 1918 when he was serving in the latter part of the First World War. He and others travelled by ship to Britain and were deployed to various points. My father never ever talked about the war so I never found out much except for the photos in an old album! He was 33years old here. He was presented with the British War Medal, the whereabouts of which I have no idea but have the fairly stiff parchment like certificate!
he is looking straight at you maggiemae...did you say your mum met your father in England..I seem to think that was the case. My father never spoke of the way years either....no counselling in those days!! He has a rather striking knowing face...lovely photo.
@happypat My Mum met him in Auckland when she came back from Leicester in 1933. He was married to another and she had died some years before! I think it is a very confident face! Thanks Pat!
Wonderful heritage shot. There is something very special in his face. It's not unusual that he did not talk about the war. I don't think many did- even after WWII they didn't. My father would share things if we asked him but even then it was reserved. This is a photo to cherish.
