My Hero by maggiemae

My Hero

As I remarked in my other photo, John went across the road to talk to the young guys renting this property who seemed to have many parties. Their loud music could be heard from a long way and often went late into the night! John said, OK guys, don't mind the hi-jinks and music but shut your doors and turn the bass down by 11pm! They were very polite and agreed to do this. Inevitably the subject of "The World's Fastest Indian' came up as one of them recognised John!

This of course produced great smiles and the desire to fit in.

I was darting around bushes on my side of the road ready to photograph any belligerent action but just caught this! It was quite a long way over there!
What a great outcome and story.

Like the shot and positive story xx

I am pleased to hear a happy outcome......The World's Fastest Indian and John?
October 3rd, 2015
Well then, that is a positive outcome for all. The guys get to live across the street from the "coolest neighbor in the world" and you get a quiet night! Glad that they're smiling. Too many times around here it's not so pleasant.

@motherjane Burt Munro was my Father -in Law, Jane!

Wow. Have just done a quick 'google'. What a man. Will read more closely later ..

Sounds like a good result.. shows there is common ground between the generations.. nice shot Maggie.. and I hope no more wakeful nights..

This looks a lovely exchange of words! I wonder if John went across & said....Do you know who I am? I doubt it but it came in handy being Burt Munro's son in this instance....respect man! I do hope they remember! They do look nice lads if a tad thoughtless

@happypat One of them said, 'haven't I seen you on tv?". I like the way they play out on their big front lawn - it was foot ball this time but in other times its been a small swimming pool that they put up, then a soccer goal post and other odd structures!
October 3rd, 2015
It looks like the exchange was friendly and hopefully the youngsters will now respect their neighbours a wee tad. One can deal with the music etc on occasion and as long as it doesn't go on into the wee hours!
October 3rd, 2015
@salza As it gets warmer, they open their doors and the music is so loud - one time till 3am! Not going to happen again though!
October 3rd, 2015
Good that you manage to sneak a shot of them. I didn't make the connection before. Funnily enough we just recorded the film although have seen it before.
October 3rd, 2015
@jennywren Its the sort of film you could watch many times! The director did a great job!

Oh, this is a joy to see! I love reading stories when young neighbors 'get' that they are part of a neighborhood. We are in an area with a lot of students, O can really appreciate the outcome. And very cool that they recognized him.

your spying photos are so cool, maggiemae. glad everything's sorted out.
October 3rd, 2015
Like the Private eye pov, great shot
October 3rd, 2015
LOL! you are a stalker photographer and this turned out very well!
October 3rd, 2015
Ha ha glad to know you do have the same problem. They made a lot of noise and music after the rugby game tonight.
October 3rd, 2015
Cool stealth shot, Maggiemae! Looks like he won them over! :)
October 3rd, 2015
I love your spying photo!! Had they just spotted you in this? And I never know that John was famous! I have seen the movie though and loved it. So cool!!
October 3rd, 2015
@kiwichick I don't think so - I was behind a very fat bush!

Great sneaky shot and story.

Crafty shot, they look like they are getting on just fine. Amazing what meeting people half way will do.
October 4th, 2015
Love the covert shot! Glad the guys all got along and hope you have some quieter nights.
October 4th, 2015
@shirleybankfarm I think starting off with a smile is the best, actually - rather than a frown!
October 4th, 2015
Neat shot...they all have smiles :)
October 4th, 2015
Great sneaky shot! Glad they happily agreed to John's request.
October 4th, 2015
John is working his magic - overall they look a pretty friendly bunch.
October 4th, 2015
@nickspicsnz thank goodness - no gang connections here!
October 4th, 2015
What great looking boys and you can see their respect for John. Being pleasant usually works best!
October 4th, 2015
That sounds like a lot of neighborhoods. We have an older than teenager who played his drums in their garage across the street from us....... all hours of the day and night. After talking to him and his parents and getting no where, we finally went to our Home Owners Association -- and they stopped it forever. The neighborhood is quiet again.
October 4th, 2015
hope it works!
October 4th, 2015
I would love to have seen you ducking and diving behind the bushes to get this shot. Now that would have been another photo! Good that it all turned out well.
October 4th, 2015
@aglennc Oh dear - drumming is so obvious. Good for you for talking first.
October 4th, 2015
The funny image is you playing paparazzi in the bushes! That makes me laugh! Great story!
October 4th, 2015
@joysfocus I was leaning into this fat bush so that they wouldn't see me from across the road pointing lens in their direction!
October 4th, 2015
They look as though they're having a pleasant exchange. Great sneaky shot.
October 5th, 2015
something about you sneaking around in the bushes is just so hilarious. amazing how many "problems" can be solved just by talking...
October 7th, 2015
Has he written a book about his dad, Maggie?
October 10th, 2015
I love to see these sneaky shots of yours! Well done John! It helps to have a famous father - so pleased that they were impressed! I watched the film and it was such a great story! Let's hope the lads remember to turn it down late at night!
