Stokesby Boathouse

Boathouse and staithe at Stokesby Ferry Inn, by the River Bure in Norfolk... Taken on a Nikon P80, and edited (a lot) in Photoshop...

Just to talk about the editing, for a moment - this is the first time that I've done any of what I would call "proper Photoshop-ing"... Previously, I've just used Photoshop to play with levels of brightness, contrast, sauration, etc - and maybe use the HDR tool, or a filter or two - but nothing very fancy, really...

In this image, however, I had to remove the gunwale of a boat which was moored in the foreground, and then create enough extra reflection in the water where the boat had been to make it look real...

I'm fairly happy with it, actually - considering that this is the first time I've attempted anything this elaborate! - although I'm sure others could've done a far better job...

What I am going to do, though, is link to the original, unedited image, here - http://www.manek.org.uk/boathouse-original - so you can see how it looked straight out of the camera, and maybe even pass some sort of judgement on my editing techniques...?

Thank you!
Nice work Kit! I checked out the original, you really did improve on the shot. Removing the boat seemed to work out well, at least at this size of viewIng. I like the increased warmth and saturation, I think it looks fairly natural too, not overdone.The only spot that seems a bit too intense might be some of the red bricks. But overall you've made a nice work of this!

Yep, Nice work, I'm soooooo impressed with the new window reflection too! I would have cropped it out cos I'm lazy PMSL

@annm
Thanks! :)
Yes, maybe some of the red bricks are a little too red, now - but when I first took the shot, I loved the variety of colour in that end wall, and really wanted to bring that out; I guess I just went a bit overboard on that, in the end!

I'm glad you think it looks natural! I can't actually "view large" on this site - that feature has never worked me for! - but looking at it at 100% in Photoshop, I think it works... (Just about! haha)

@pete21
Yes, that was my first instinct as well - but then it felt like I'd lost too much of the reflection, and the proportions in the picture had gone, so I thought I'd try this technique out, and see where I got with it! I'm glad it seems to be working - thanks... :)
