@wiesnerbeth , It's a technique I learned about 15 years ago in a Caryl Bryer-Fallert workshop. You take the tape pieces off as you get to them (see all the pieces stuck on the machine?). Works great, but I did add a few pins because of the size of the piece. You can see them along the edges.
