@wiesnerbeth I once worked as a local representative for a library building consultant, designing a whole series of libraries in Louisiana. The library in this photo is my own local library and it's fantastic! Built about 6 years ago, it has a huge free-standing double-sided stone fireplace right smack in the middle with comfy chairs around it. There's a great kids wing with a special activity room, teens have their own "private" area, there's even a "cafe" where you can sit and eat while you do homework, and another small tutoring room. Of course the computer area is top-notch (and in great demand), they do rotating exhibits by local artists on one long wall, there's an area where donated books are sold, and a nice large community room (where the meeting was held that we were leaving). I especially love that the county built this library within walking distance of my house!
@margonaut Wow! I'm so jealous -- of your former job, your fun library, and that you can walk to it! I wish we were neighbors -- I had such a hard time designing my library this week. It would have been great to talk to someone about the project. Im posting a picture of my pathetic plans, which I finished around 1:30a.m. (after the midnight deadline). Please don't look at them! In high school I wanted to be an architect -- now I realize how hard it is!
