The first 4 columns

I'm repairing a quilt top from the 1930s, replacing damaged blocks. Five columns to go. It's huge.
This is amazing! Is it a family quilt?

@wiesnerbeth No, I bought it in Paducah a couple of years ago. They always have a silent auction at the show to benefit the museum. It's been on the shelf waiting for me to pay attention to it. All the brown blocks had disintegrated. Apparently all the brown fabrics from that time fell apart because of the mordant used in the dye. (One of the things I learned last weekend.) It appears to be made from clothing, so I am remaking the brown squares with shirts from the Goodwill store. I didn't want to just leave them out because they are such a clear design element.

@margonaut I love it — especially using Goodwill shirts as replacements. I use a lot of thrift store shirts in my quilts. It’s beautiful.

I love your shot, with the sewing machine in the background. Tells the story. Awesome that you can restore this work of art from the past. When I see old textiles, I always think of the women who made them....
