Buffleheads on the Pond by markandlinda

Buffleheads on the Pond

We visited our local pond today and couldn't resist these two Buffleheads (small diving ducks). After a bit of research, we found there are a few varieties of Buffleheads. The male pictured here, is the white and black one with the iridescent head and a white 'bonnet', known just as a "Bufflehead". The other is a female with a brown head, greyish body and a gold eye. She is known as a "Common Goldeneye."
They are absolutely delightful... Fav

Great shot! I didn't realize that a Common Goldeneye was a variety of Bufflehead. Makes sense - they are quite similar in shape.

Look at that iridescent head on the male! So beautiful, or should I say handsome. It's nice to see all the detail at such a close up view. I don't notice all that just by looking at them in the lagoon.
