Sunday saw me heading north again. As far north as I can go without flying or getting on a ferry. This is John O'Groats Hotel in the far north of Scotland. The start or finish for everyone who does the Land's End / John O'Groats end to end challenge. Some do it the easy way by car or motorbike, others do it with a bit more effort.
I cycled it in 2010, I have seen people doing it on tandems, penny farthing bikes, and even a unicycle.
A lot of people walk it, and there is also every year for the totally crazy, an organised Ultra Marathon.
The competitors in this run from End to End in 15 days, they average about SIXTY / SIXTY FIVE MILES per DAY !!!!
Do you think they would all be upset if I told them that , John O'Groats is not actually the most northerly point of mainland Britain ?
The honour to that goes to Dunnet Head, a peninsular about six miles to the east !
@gamelee No they are new Lee, they are slowly improving the place. It used to be a right old dump, hardly worth all the travelling to get there.
When I was there a lad managed to get to the very top of one of the metal shapes, using his hands on the back to brace his feet tight.
