ORKNEY ADVENTURES:: DAY FOUR
ISLE OF SHAPINSAY
Today the plan was to visit the Isle of Shapinsay, a shortish ferry trip, a bit of a gloomy start, changed as I landed on the island, the sun came out. As I looked around and got my bearings, not hard, only one road away from the ferry, I spotted the seals sitting on the seaweed and rocks very close to the jetty. Got a few shots and wandered off around, a beautiful island, timing was perfect, just as a brief shower turned up, I reached a Bird Hide. Quite lot to watch from here, including some Gulls playing with a stone. There had it in their bill, flew up high, dropped the stone and dropped down after it to catch it before it hit the floor. Very clever. Back to the Smithy for a wonderful lunch and chat with the island Postman. More exploring and photos during the sunny afternoon and then returned to the ferry back to Kirkwall. I did miss a return call at the Smithy for a slice of some fabulous looking cakes, will just have to return to the island again.
Wonderful place and no hiccups today, but I did find something very unusual, it is in my other album.
