It's surprising what you can find while you are driving around the countryside in Scotland if you keep your eyes open.
Take this handsome character for example, he is a European Bison ( Bison bonasus), a different species to the more familiar American Bison, ( Bison bison).
These were hunted to extinction in the wild in the early 20th century, fortunately there were animals in captivity and these have been bred and re-introducted back into the wild.
This is part of a herd at the Highland Wildlife Park,just south of Aviemore, which live out in a very large drive through reserve.
As long as you stay in your car, you are free to have your windows wide open and even hang out of the window in your quest to get your picture. It took me three hours to drive around it just once, (you can do as many laps as you want), it's not that huge, just full of interesting animals.
I never even got that long to explore the very large walk around section, need to return I think.
