SHIELD BUG by markp

SHIELD BUG

With such distinctive marking, I thought this would be easy to identify. However the best I can do is that it is some form of Shield Bug, any experts out there with a better ID, feel free to help me identify him.

UPDATE> Many thanks to Beryl @beryl who has correctly identified for me that this is a Common Green Shield Bug (Paloma prasina ), it is the 5th instar which is the stage before the full adult. These are curious bugs that have various stages in their life cycle, similar to the egg, caterpillar, pupa, butterfly one, but with more stages. You learn something new everyday on here.

Having a Bug's day today, to see the rest of the bugs, just click on the link below.

@beryl Thank you very much Beryl, you are spot on with your identification. It does not look anything like the adult Green Shield Bug as pictured in my book, so being curious and having some time I went looking on-line. I did not realise these had so many different stages in their life cycle, and looked so different. They look a very interesting group of Bugs and I will keep my eyes open to try and find some more of them.

I will change the details on my post, thank you again.

Great clear capture and good info! That's one of the beauties of this 365 sight is someone can always help identify bugs, flowers etc - so helpful :)

This is a really nice close-up - I have learned so much from this wonderful site - things are no longer just "bugs" or "flowers" - I've learned their names and things about them thanks to shots like this.
