I went for a cycle ride today, headed north out of Aviemore through Carrbridge up and over Slochd Summit to Tomatin. Then turned west and went down some lovely little lanes twisting turning and finally starting a long climb up in to the hills and right up on to the tops of the moors. Quick stop for dinner and then began an awesome descent, screaming downhill for over 5 miles, one of the best drops I have done for a long time. Then a bit more up and downs past some beautiful Lochs and finally Loch Ness appeared over the brow of the hill. From the bike against the gate, with Loch Ness in the background, there was an other incredible descent, I shot down there at well over 40 miles an hour. Then arrived on the southern banks of Loch Ness, think the Monster was away visiting relatives. Cycled into Inverness and decided to take train back. No joy, could not get bike on next two trains and decided I could ride home faster than waiting for the third train. Took the quickest and shortest route, straight down ( and a lot of ups as well ) the A9. Beat the train back to Aviemore !!! Fabulous ride, a quick 80 mile spin.
@zigzag33 Thank you Linda, it is quite a climb because on the way back you start at sea level. The high point of the day was actually about 463 metres / 1520 feet ! Not only is it beautiful but off the main road there is almost no road traffic.
@bailey Thanks Julie, it was a cracking day, except for the hassle at Inverness station. Booking office staff very good, platform staff total and utter ************s
