I nearly posted a photo of a Swan instead as the story is rather unbelievable. I had gone looking for a picture at a canal near the River Mersey. There is a flock of Swans there and I was photographing one that had lifted its foot up on to its back between its wings, it was busy preening itself. The foot which was sticking up into the air had its toes spread wide and the web between them was stretched taut. A young lad in school uniform, about 9 or 10 years old approached me, looked at the scene and asked " Why has that bird got a fishes tail stuck on its back?" I just looked at him. He repeated the question, totally seriously at least twice more. I replied " That is not a fishes tail, it is the Swans foot" He looked at me as though I had two heads. So I told him again what it was, he had another close look, looked at me and I could see him thinking "Stupid Man " and wandered off convinced he had just seen a big white bird with a fishes tail stuck in its back.
Don't think Nature Studies are his forte.
