FEASTING FLY

My apologies if you are about to eat, but this is a Flesh-Fly (Sarcophaga carnaria ) which deposits its small larvae, rather than eggs, directly into carrion. If you look closely you can see its proboscis which it uses to suck up its food, in this case banana. If the food source is dry, it first vomits a mixture of saliva and digestive juices to break down the food and then sucks it back up. Lovely.
Great fly photo!!!
