Ruthven Barracks just outside Kingussie is an infantry barracks built in 1719 after the Jacobite rising of 1715. It has two separate blocks of quarters, one pictured here, a large court yard, and a high wall surrounding it. There is a stable block built just outside. It was captured and burnt by Prince Charles Edward Stuart's army in 1748. You might know him better as Bonnie Prince Charlie.
My other album contains a tough Scottish character today.
Nice shot, love the area where you are, I think I a friend and I stayed with her mother near where you are... I remember loads of frogs and red squirrels... ps friend of mine gave me some advice once and said if I stood further away or higher up (on something), it would reduce the amount the walls taper in. @markrlemon Thanks very much Mark, and I will remember that bit of advice in future. However here I had a problem, to fit the entire building in, I was across the courtyard and actually inside the other barracks, and in there was a flight of wooden steps to take you down into the basement. I needed to stand on the second or third step down to get this, meaning I was much lower than if I had had the room just to move further back.
.. still a good photo though, and I appreciate sometimes you just can't or maybe decide not to... really like looking at your photo's and I love the area. Keep posting Mark L @markp
