ORKNEY ADVENTURES :: DAY SEVEN
PERFECT PAPAY
After the adventures of the last couple of days, today was much calmer. Woke to find a wonderful, warm sunny day had dawned. Left the hostel, a great place to stay, and somewhere I hope to return to. Wandered around the island, exploring its secrets.
Bumble, fully laden is quite distinctive, and while I was cycling around, I was stopped about five times, and asked " Were you on the boat last night ? " "Yes" I replied. "What happened ?" Was the next question. So I told them. Full story in yesterdays post.
I went back to the Papa Westray Youth Hostel to use the shop for some dinner, and met Jennifer the Warden. She asked if I could send her some pictures for the new Facebook page for the hostel. I did and there are few on there if you care to look on there.
After dinner I went down to Knap of Howar, oldest house in Europe, about 5,500 years old. I met and got talking to the farmer on who's land this is on and he invited me to have a look around some of the other interesting things on the land. Alas, I had to say I would have to return as I needed to get the ferry over to Westray and my hotel at Pierowall, only a day late.
A quick ride around a small part of Westray, need to
come back again and have a proper look.
Apparently, Catriona, Alison and Anthony who I met on Monday, had met on the ferry from Kirkwall and spent the day on the island, but our paths did not cross. A slightly nicer tea than Pot Noodles tonight.
Another view of the lovely island of Papay, in my other album today.
