I spent most of today in Liverpool, doing Christmas shopping, however the camera was in the car and once the shopping was done I was free to look for something to photograph.
This is the Church of St Luke in Liverpool City Centre, it is more commonly known locally as " the Bombed-Out Church". Designed by John Foster, building started in 1811, but it was not rushed and along with several design changes was not finished till 1832.
On the 6th May 1941, during the Liverpool Blitz, it was hit by an incendiary device which caused a large fire and it was left as an empty shell. The decision was taken to maintain the church as a burnt out shell as a memorial to those who died during the war.
It is now home to Urban Strawberry Lunch, they make music on everyday objects and organise musical events, exhibitions, and performances of films, dance, poetry, and drama. All outdoors of course as there is no roof.
I think it looks nicer on black.
Below is a link to the latest exhibit unveiled today...
Wow !! This is interesting. Great capture of this beautiful building shell. So nice that they use the surroundings for arts. Thanks for sharing this history. fav
@_catherine_ Haha, Thank you very much Catherine, not quite, I was down on one knee though. There are actually a couple more steps just out of shot, which saved me from that.
