@maggiemae Thanks Maggiemae, it was almost certainly slate, this is not far from the heart of the Welsh slate quarrying industry. Welsh slate was exported all over the world, and is very long lasting. The slates on the roof are easily removed, and re-used else where. Across the UK, very often the first thing that happens to these abandoned houses, is the slates are sold or stolen, then the elements begin to do their worst.
