TIME FOR DINNER

Another view of yesterdays peaceful Common Darter dragonfly.
After getting several shots from behind this very obliging insect, I moved around to see if I could get a side view. That was when I discovered the reason it had been sitting so still. It had caught what looked like a House Fly and was busy dismembering and eating it !
Unfortunately as I moved around to the side, the sun went behind a cloud and the light wasn't as good as in the previous image.

Another reason to love dragonflies. The black flies are so bad here in the summer. Maybe that's why we have so many dragonflies.

@rosiekind Thank you Rosie. Yes that's why they have such large eyes. Dragonflies have excellent eyesight and catch their prey on the wing.
