Sunday was my last full day in Scotland and it dawned bright and sunny. With a shock to the system, I was up and out, and on the bus before 8.30. The plan was to get the bus to Nethybridge, then walk through Abernethy Forest and from there up above the tree line towards Ryvoan Pass, and then drop down past the bothy, the Green Lochan and into Glenmore Forest, finally reaching Glenmore.
A nice morning stroll, about 16 or 17 miles.
This is Abernethy Forest, and yes this was as about as busy as it got. The forest is owned by the RSPB, and they have got a lodge and research centre in the centre of the forest about a mile away from this spot.
If you are quiet, (and lucky), Capercallie, Scottish Crossbills, Crested Tits, and so I have been told even Scottish Wildcat can be spotted in here.
@colinbarber013 I have been lucky enough to have seen quite a few over the years up here Colin, but not near to this spot. However, one of the few people I met on this walk, a mountain biker who stopped to talk, said she saw them fairly regularly here. She said the best spot seemed to be at the top of this path, where it meets the road up to the lodge, apparently they come out on to the road for the grit. So if you ever get all the way back up there again, it might be worth a look.
