This is a Great Spotted Woodpecker and he drove me mad. He kept flying onto the large Scots Pine tree just to the left of this Birch tree. I saw him go behind it, then could hear him scratching around on the bark. Then his head would appear on one side then vanish. More scratching and he would appear a bit higher up but on the other side of the tree. Then vanish, more scratching etc , etc,.Then fly off. Then return. Time after time. This was about the best I got of him.
