This is one, of by now, quite a large herd of Reindeer that roam freely around the mountains in the Cairngorms. Most spend their time high up, in very remote and hard to get to areas on the tops on the mountains. However there are always a few easier ones to find, if you know just where to look.
@maggiemae Thank you Maggiemae, until last week I thought there was only one kind of Reindeer too. Apparently there two different species, they are very hard to tell apart but inhabit totally different habitats so rarely meet. The Tundra Reindeer, which this is, live on the tundra, a vast, flat, treeless Arctic region of Europe, Asia and North America with the subsoil permanently frozen. They sometimes undergo vast migrations. It is the male, ( they are more docile), of this species that are used at Christmas time at shopping centres etc.
The Forest Reindeer, as the name suggests, lives in the huge Northern forests of Europe.
