I first spotted this in the garden on the 4th and seems to visited everyday since. I have had several goes at photographing this, but for one reason or another they have not been very good. This morning for the first time I was already sitting in the garden when he appeared, he did not seem that bothered by me, the light was okay, and as I started taking shots, he was walking towards me. Today is the day I get a nice shot, I was thinking as he suddenly flew off. Taking the camera from my eye, I saw what had caused him to take flight, the cat, NOT mine by the way, had just walked around the corner next to the bird. The focus is not quite really sharp, but I only had a few shots to choose from. Oh, the bird is a Grey Wagtail (Montacilla cinerea ) more normally found near running water. Once I have dealt very severely with the cat, I will try and get a better shot.
Don't see very many of these - much as I like cats they can be a nuisance around the feeding stations. If it's not the cats it''s the sparrowhawks taking the small birds.
love it.... I would love one of those to pop into my garden.. we tend to get spuggies, finches and robins and occasionally a pied wagtail... oh and pigeons... blackbirds, starlings and crows... and occasionally the sparrow hawk.
@virtualbrownie Thank you Brownie, there are a few cats around but apart from disturbing the birds they are not a big problem. Partly because of were the feeders are,and also because there are so many birds around the cats are always spotted. The Sparrowhawk is a much more efficient hunter, I did catch a glimpse of her today.
@dh Thank you Delena, the cat in question came with my daughter when she moved back, she is quite old and does not seem interested in birds, but she does catch Wood Mice now and then. Dealing with entailed scooping the cat up off the floor and locking in the house. Although it was a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted !
