Mistakenly thought by many to be the most Northerly point of mainland Britain, John O'Groats was a bit of a dump, to be very polite. It was not a very welcoming sight to the very many visitors who made the long journey up here. It looks like things are beginning to change. The white building is the former derelict John O'Groats Hotel, looking cleaner and those other new buildings certainly brighten the place up a bit.
The most Northerly bit of mainland Britain is Dunnets Head, just a few miles to the west.
@cljs Thank you very much Chris, you should, its a great ride, I did it four years ago and was toying with the idea of doing it again in September. However I think I might have another silly idea instead now.
Interesting buildings. At first glance they looked like typical old wood, by the sea , type houses but on closer look there is a lot more glass and modern looking windows than I would expect.
@gardencat No Joanne , the coloured ones are quite new, last couple of years, not sure what there are being used for, only spent a couple of minutes there this time, as I was in a rush to get to my B&B. Next time I will have a proper look .
