SILVER SANDS

I went down to see how the new bridge they are building to cross the River Mersey was getting on.
It was low tide and as usual there is a vast area of sand and mud flats left exposed by the retreating waters. Occasionally local kids make their way out there, now a days sparking a full scale rescue operation, but in less health and safety obsessed days they always got back by themselves.

Since they have started building the new bridge, and having put bases for the legs into the river, it has greatly changed the flow of river and the position of the deeper channels, that remain at all states of the tide.
I think these four were on the sands to try and map the new channels.
Didn't know they were building a new bridge?

@365projectorgchristinewebb OH YES ! It is about a mile upstream from the old one. They have called it The Mersey Gateway Project, you will find it on google or other search engine.
I think it might be the largest engineering project on the go in the UK at the moment.
They are causing mayhem with the roadworks for the new approach roads. In Runcorn half the Expressways are closed or simply don't exist any more. Now they are starting same silly games in Widnes, like closing a major roundabout. No proper advance warning or decent diversions, think they went to the Monty Python School of Highway Planning.
You enter the roundabout and the only place you can go is over the old bridge to Runcorn, turn around and come back to Widnes, the thing is there is only one exit off the bridge into Widnes left open and if you miss that , say hello to Liverpool !!

For TEN stupid weeks they had Three separate divisions to-ing and fro-ing over the bridge plus all the normal heavy traffic.

If they manage to do it in time, we only have two more years of chaos.

Then to top it all off they plan to TOLL that new bridge and our old bridge which has been TOLL FREE since opening in 1961 !!!!!
