The River Mersey sweeping past Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. Very shortly this view will change for ever. Look closely and you will see construction equipment and some concrete legs for the approach roads towards the new Mersey Gateway Bridge. This will partly obscure the power station.
However an even bigger change is shortly about to take place. The Government has recently announced that three of the four steam turbines will close down by this April, and the last one will cease producing electricity by April 2017. So it won't be long before there will be no photographs of the power station working flat out with steam bellowing from all eight cooling towers.
Its quite an iconic sight and a local landmark, you can see the clouds it produces from miles away.
