A NEW GARDEN VISITOR by markp

A NEW GARDEN VISITOR

Unfortunately I was rushing out when I spotted this Ring Necked Parakeet in the garden, so I didn't have time to get a clearer shot of it. I have heard it around, the last couple of days, and just before I posted this I saw it back in the garden.

They are not native to the UK, but there is a population of many thousands in London and the surrounding counties. I also think there is a feral population in Manchester too. So I am thinking it is more likely to be a feral one, rather than somebodies lost pet.

@colinbarber013 Lets see if this one multiplies as fast as yours did, Colin.

Wow! I knew they were expanding out of London but didn't realise they had made it so far north!

@markp great shot Mark and I am sure there will be more than one around, if this one has found your feeders he/she will pass it to their friends.

There's quite a lot of them in the park in Liverpool, it's difficult to see them at this time of year in the trees but in the winter they're easy to spot. Interesting to have one visiting the garden, great shot!

@inthecloud5 Oh I didn't know they had got to Liverpool. I saw one in Warrington a few years ago, just the once. It makes it more likely then that this is feral one then.

@roachling Thanks Louise, since posting this I have learned that there are quite a lot in Liverpool, at a park that is only a few miles away.
