@_catherine_ Thank you very much, the lens is a Sony 4.5-5.6/ 55-300 Telephoto zoom., but it is helped by the fact that my camera a Sony A77 has a built in electronic teleconverter. this works brilliantly and basically multiplies the magnification by 1.4x or 2.0x times. it is really handy and has two great advantages, one, it means I don't need to carry around a huge, heavy and expensive lens around, and also the lens I have is light enough to enable me to handhold it,in most situations and so I am able to follow the birds much faster. It seems to work.
