These at times can be a curse to birdwatchers and photographers. It is a Redshank, and has an old traditional nickname of " the Sentinel of the Marsh". Ever vigilant, they are often the first birds to spot you approaching, and take off, with their piercing call, alerting other birds to possible danger and very often also putting to flight the rarer bird you have been trying to get closer too.
