I had returned to Iona, to have another look for the Corncrakes. I was not to be disappointed, apart from hearing three different birds, I got some nice views and shots of one of them. Then when all the other photographers had given up, almost as they had just turned the corner. Out comes Mr Corncrake, making his way with purpose across the field. He popped up on that rock, spread his wing and tail features in a courtship display, and then mated with the female he is now approaching.
Totally stunned and in awe at seeing such an amazing thing.
This is one of Nature's Truly Magic Moments, something you just can't buy, you need to be very, very lucky to witness something as special as this.

Thanks for sharing the shot. One of my favourite things about photography is that it has taught me that, sometimes, you just need the patience to just be somewhere and be receptive to whatever nature brings you. Sounds like your patience really paid off here.
@gardencat Thank you Joanne, yes I think it really did. I would have loved to have found Mr Big Lens, and told him what he had missed. He seemed to have the attitude that if the bird was not out in the open, posing 6 feet away from him it was not worth bothering. He might have had the right equipment, but certainly not the right mind set.
You said that right! What an delightful time you must have had watching these corncrakes (which I'd never heard of before). Wonderul detail on your shot.
@milaniet Thank you Milanie, google or you tube for video of Corncrakes. They sometimes live in fields of corn, if you hear its amazing call you will know where the second part of its name comes from.
Your patience paid big dividends !! Yes waiting and hoping is sometimes really worth the shot! I have not heard of these birds here but they sound amazing :) fav
