FOREST BUG by markp

FOREST BUG

A Forest Bug ( Pentatoma rufipes), this one flew down on to my arm, so i had to take this shot one handed.
Is that aka a shield bug/stinky bug? they're green when mature and like runner beans?

@amfrumbiddivurd Hi Andy, yes they are in the same family as Shield Bugs, Pentatomidae, some of them share the nickname of stink bugs, as when they are alarmed they can release a pungent fluid. The Forest Bug is brown when mature, but there are several green shield bugs. They all seem to prefer different food plants, and their colours seem to help them blend in.

Also in the same family is the Stink Bug, or Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (Halyomorpha halya) to give him his full title. Native to China, Japan and Taiwan, they have recently been accidental introduced into the USA and are turning out to be a major problem, both by eating the crops and also contaminating them with their delightful (not) smell.

Fortunately, as far as I know, none of ours are major pests
