There is a pair of these Goldcrests flitting around the garden, and I have some really good close up views of them. Always when I was not carrying my camera. I have been trying to get a good shot of them for a while now, and now it's gone colder they have discovered the feeders so its a bit easier.
However what I am really after is a nice natural looking shot off the feeders.
At the Camera Club last year one of my Goldcrest shots got fourth place, I am looking to improve on that this year.
So here's a Goldcrest shot just for starters, watch this space.
I feel your pain. The feeders detract from a shot but are the easiest place to capture the birds. I keep trying to come up with more natural looking feeders...but then there are the squirrels!
@paulaw Thank you Paula, thats not hard. Those food blocks when full are 300 grams, a Goldcrest weights about 6 grams, the same as a 10 pence coin, and only half the weigh of a Wren.
@gardencat Thank you Joanne, a trick to try, which has worked with other species, and I am hoping will work with these is to watch where the birds are coming from and place an attractive natural perch near to the feeders, but far enough away so feeder does not appear in any photos.
What a beautiful shot of this lovely goldcrest. They are so rarely seen and I wish they would visit my garden. I have only ever seen one before when I walked along Wood Lane but I'm sure they must be about somewhere. Fav
