ROOK by markp

ROOK

This is a Rook ( Corvus frugilegus), a member of the Crow family. At first glance, you might think it is a Carrion Crow, but the easiest way to distinguish them is that bare greyish white face at the top of the bill. Plus Rooks are very sociable. Carrion Crows you will see in ones and twos, and nest singly. Rooks gather in large, sometimes very large flocks and nest together. Their huge colonies are called a Rookery.

They are very clever and intelligent birds, known to make use of tools, such as sticks or wire. In experiments, they have been seen to make hooks out of wire, and also to solve other problems to get at previously unreachable food.

So maybe not really bird brained.
